History of confrontations: Inter – Juventus
On Sunday, January 17, in the central match of the 18th round of the Italian championship, Inter Milan and Juventus Turin will meet.
It will be a real fight as Inter are currently in second place in the Serie A standings with 37 points. Juventus are fourth with 33 points.
ISPORT talks about the history of the confrontation between the two top clubs in Italy.
The duel between Inter and Juventus is the derby of Italy, because these two teams have played more matches in the national championship than any two teams. This is really one of the most fundamental confrontations, because for more than 100 years of history they have played over 200 matches in official tournaments.
The teams met for the first time in the 1909/10 season – Juventus won in Turin, and Inter won in Milan. Before the reorganization of the Italian championship, which took place since the 1929/30 season, the teams played as many as 23 matches among themselves – the Nerazzurri won 11 victories, Juventus scored 7 triumphs, and more pin up 5 matches ended in a draw.
In the first season of the reorganized tournament (the current format of Serie A), the “black and blue” beat Juventus twice and became national champions a round before the end of the campaign. However, their luck ended there – in the next five years, Turintsy won five champion trophies in a tense struggle with Inter. However, already the second half of the 30s was for the Milanese, who won two Scudetto.
